ASKER Type D Durometer
The ASKER Type D Durometer is specifically designed for testing the hardness of hard rubbers and plastics . It measures material hardness on the Shore D scale based on global industrial standards like ISO 48-4, ASTM D 2240, and JIS K 6253-3.
Applications & Materials
The ASKER Type D durometer for materials that are too hard for a standard ASKER Type A durometer (where a Type A reading would exceed 90 points). Typical applications include:
- Hard Plastics & Polymers: Rigid PVC, acrylic, polystyrene, polycarbonate, and nylon.
- Hard Rubbers: Ebonite, vulcanized high-density rubber, and hard synthetic elastomers.
- Resins & Composites: Epoxy resins, polyurethane casting resins, fiberglass laminates, and thermoformed plastics.
- Industrial Products: Bowling balls, hard plastic rollers, protective helmets, golf balls, and heavy-duty pipelines.

Specification :
The ASKER Type D durometer fully conforms to major national and international standards for hard rubber and plastics testing:
ISO 48-4 / ISO 868 (International)
ASTM D 2240 (USA)
JIS K 6253-3 / JIS K 7215 (Japan)
DIN 53505 (Germany)
Hardness Scale: Shore D (High hardness)
Indication Range: 0 point – 100 point (262° dial scale)
Minimum Graduation: 1 point

Indentor Height: 2.50 mm
Indentor Geometry: 30° Sharp Cone Point with a Tip Radius of R 0.1 mm
Spring Force: (0 pt) 0 mN (0 g)/ Spring Force (100 pt) 44,500 mN (4,538 g)
Pressure Foot Shape: Rectangular Pressure Foot
Size: 44 mm (Width) × 18 mm (Depth)
Weight: Approx. 200 g
How it Works & Why it's Used for Hard Materials
Unlike softer scales, the Type D durometer features a sharp, cone-shaped indenter point with a 30° angle and a tiny R0.1 mm tip radius.
When you press the gauge against a surface, it applies a very strong internal spring force (up to 44,500 mN / 4.5 kg). The instrument measures how deep this sharp tip penetrates the surface. Because hard materials strongly resist penetration, this specific combination of a sharp tip and high spring force is required to get an accurate, readable depth measurement without damaging the internal mechanism of the gauge.
Maintenance and calibration :
► We also have calibration certificate attached ( optional )
► Please re-calibrate after use for a certain period through our purchase store.
