The Sanko SWT-7000IV and SWT-7200IV are specialized, high-precision, non-destructive instruments designed by Sanko Electronic Laboratory to measure the thickness of coatings on metal surfaces. Both models utilize external, interchangeable probes to perform measurements using two distinct principles: Electromagnetic Induction and Eddy Current.
The Two Measurement Principles
- Electromagnetic Method (Ferrous Substrates - Fe): This method measures the thickness of non-magnetic coatings (like paint, plastic, rubber, chrome, or zinc) applied over magnetic metal bases (such as iron or steel).
- Eddy Current Method (Non-Ferrous Substrates - NFe): This method measures insulating or non-conductive coatings (like paint, anodized oxide layers, or plastics) applied over non-magnetic conductive metal bases (such as aluminum, copper, or brass).

- Interchangeable SWT-7000IV/SWT-7200IV Probes: Probes are sold separately, allowing users to choose specific sensors tailored to their target application (e.g., standard flat surfaces, micro-components, or deep pipes).
- Intelligent Dual Probes: When paired with a dual-type probe like the SFN-325, both the 7000IV and 7200IV automatically detect whether the underlying metal is ferrous or non-ferrous and adapt the measurement technique instantly.
- User-Friendly Interface: Engineered with a slim grip body, 4-button navigation panel, and scrolling on-screen text guides to assist operators through 2-point calibration sequences.
- Flexible Connectivity: Units feature an integrated USB port for computer interfacing alongside a built-in flip stand for benchtop configurations.
- Measurement Unit Switching: Instantly toggles between metric micrometers (\(\mu m\)) and imperial mils based on user preference

Key Differences: SWT-7000IV vs. SWT-7200IV:
Data Memory and Export
- SWT-7000IV: Zero data memory. It acts as a live monitoring tool. Once you lift the probe from the surface, the reading stays on screen until the next measurement, but it cannot be saved into internal memory blocks.
- SWT-7200IV: Features a massive 20,000-point data memory capacity. You can group readings into distinct application batches or files and export them to a computer via USB later for auditing.
Substrate Calibration Memory
- SWT-7000IV: Retains only 1 calibration curve in its active working memory. If you switch from testing a thin automotive panel to a thick industrial beam, you must manually recalibrate the zero-point and foil standard every time.
- SWT-7200IV: Can save up to 10 independent calibration curves. You can calibrate the machine once for 10 different target shapes or metals and toggle between them instantly without redoing the calibration routine.
The Sanko SWT-7000IV and SWT-7200IV require SWT-NEO type optional probes to perform measurements. These probes are divided into three categories: Dual-Substrate, Ferrous-only (SFe), and Non-Ferrous-only (SNFe).

APPLICATIONS
▶ Electro-magnetic type : For non -destructive measurements of the thickness of non-magnetic and non-conductive coatings and linings applied to magnetic metallic substrate including ferritic stainless steel.
Paintings : Machines, automobiles, ships, buildings, bridges.
Linings : Resin, tar epoxy, rubber, enamel, glass.
Platings : Zinc, copper, chrome except electrolytic nickel. Metallikon, parkerizing, spray deposit coatings, ox-ide films.
▶ Eddy current type : For non-destructive measurements of the thickness of non-conductive and anodic films applied to non -magnetic metallic substrate (aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper, austenitic stainless steel).
Paintings : Building materials, vehicles, aircrafts, machines.
Anodized coatings : Aluminum sashes, home electric products.
Linings : Tanks, pools, chemical containers, rollers, machines.
Maintenance and calibration :
