The Renishaw TP200 (A-1207-0020)  is a high-precision touch-trigger probe used on Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) for automated part inspection. 1. High-Precision Inspection (Eliminating "Lobing") The primary reason to use a TP200 is to eliminate lobing.   • The Problem (Standard Probes): Standard probes (like the TP20) work like a mechanical tripod switch. They require different amounts of force to trigger depending on which direction the stylus hits the part. This creates a 3-lobed error shape known as "lobing."   • The TP200 Solution: It uses strain gauge sensors (solid-state electronics) rather than a mechanical switch. This ensures the probe triggers with the exact same force in any direction, providing superior accuracy for tight tolerances (e.g., roundness or spherical measurements).   2. Measuring Deep Features (Long Styli) The TP200 is excellent for measuring features deep inside a part that require long stylus reach. It supports stylus lengths up to 100 mm (using Carbon Fiber/GF extensions) without losing significant accuracy.   • Because the sensors are electronic, they are more sensitive to the slight bending of long styli than mechanical probes are. 3. Measuring Delicate Surfaces You can use the TP200 with a Low Force (LF) module. This triggers with very little pressure, making it ideal for:   • Soft materials (plastics, rubber).   • Small precision features that might deflect or scratch under normal probe force. 4. Automated Stylus Changing Like the TP20, the TP200 uses magnetic modules that can be swapped automatically using an SCR200 rack. This allows you to:   • Switch between different stylus shapes (e.g., a star stylus vs. a long straight stylus) in the middle of a program. • Inspect complex parts without manual intervention.
