The Hioki Battery Impedance Meter BT4560-60 is a precision instrument designed for the high-speed, accurate evaluation of lithium-ion battery cells, primarily in manufacturing and research and development (R&D).Reliable EIS measurements of high-capacity battery cells for EVs and ESSs. The Battery Impedance Meter BT4560-60 can make EIS(*1) measurements quickly and easily in applications ranging from R&D to manufacturing. With its wide EIS measurement frequency range of 0.01 Hz to 10 kHz, the BT4560-60 is especially suited for battery cell design research and development. By adding the Switch Mainframe SW1001 or SW1002, the system can be easily expanded into a multi-channel evaluation.   • Impedance Measurement: It uses the AC-IR (Alternating Current Internal Resistance) method over a wide frequency range (0.01 Hz to 10 kHz) to determine the battery's internal resistance. This method allows for a detailed assessment of different internal components, such as electrolyte resistance (measured at high frequencies) and electrode reaction resistance (measured at low frequencies), which is key to understanding battery performance and degradation.
  • Voltage Measurement: The device simultaneously measures the DC voltage of the battery with high precision (accuracy of ±0.0035% rdg. ±5 dgt., according to the Hioki website).
  • Speed and Efficiency: By utilizing low-frequency AC-IR measurement, the BT4560-60 significantly shortens the inspection time for battery cells, eliminating the need for time-consuming pre-charging and discharging cycles required by traditional DC-IR methods, making it ideal for high-volume production lines.
  • Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS): The instrument supports EIS measurements across a broad frequency range. The collected data can be used with bundled software to create Nyquist/Cole-Cole plots and perform detailed equivalent circuit analysis, which helps in identifying specific degradation factors and improving battery design. 
  • Manufacturing Quality Control: Used to check and verify the impedance of lithium-ion cells at the end of the assembly process to ensure consistent quality.
  • Research & Development: The wide frequency range and ability to perform EIS make it a valuable tool for engineers and scientists researching battery chemistry, degradation phenomena (State of Health - SoH), and developing new, more efficient battery designs.
  • Cell Matching: In the production of battery packs and modules (for electric vehicles or energy storage systems), the BT4560-60 is used for incoming cell inspection and for grouping cells with similar impedance and capacity to achieve balanced performance.
